A man has been charged with murder after the death of a woman in West Auckland over the weekend, police say.

The 43-year-old suspect, who was allegedly known to the victim, has been taken into custody and charged today.

Police were called to a home in Massey early on Sunday morning, where they found the woman's body. A post-mortem examination has since been completed.

Detective Senior Sergeant Megan Goldie released the first details on the incident today.

“Officers responded to an address on Chorley Rd at around 12.50am on June 9, and found a woman deceased at the residential property," she said in a media release.
